By His riches

In the middle of a crazy season where the three of us were sharing my car to go to 4 jobs and school, God did some amazing things!

Andrew was given a car by some dear friends of ours!
It is as old as he is, but it works! What an amazing gift!

And then a few days later some wonderful people said they want to cover the cost to repair Joy's car! And I burst into tears on the spot and made it really awkward! LOL
But I couldn't help it! It was going to take her a very long time to save up for that repair!
How good is God?!💗🙌🏼

"And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:19
I love that this verse says it is by HIS riches that He supplies. His supply is unlimited and one of His names is Provision!
So grateful for that and the incredible people He has put in our lives. 💗

The banquet

The company that my husband worked for has its annual awards banquet this week.
We've been going since our kiddos were pretty young and my biggest worry back then was that one of them would spill something. Now my biggest worry is that I will have to give a speech!

Their awards have always been based on character traits. My hubby always won quite a few awards each year. And now,  the highest award anyone can win is named after him.

Last year when I was invited to attend, I didn't get the memo that I was GIVING A SPEECH and handing out the award at the end of the banquet -until I had already arrived.
I think the absence of that info was God's way of making sure I came.

Zac was my date and he was pretty sure I was going to pass out during dinner and kept watching me.LOL (to say that public speaking is not my thing is a major understatement!)
I thought I might pass out too. Especially when the men who gave speeches before mine were so polished and funny.

But God,
who can do anything,
even help ME public speak, ---was faithful!

And Zac confirmed that whatever I said made sense. : )

It really was a beautiful time and I was deeply honored to be there and see my husband's character honored and say a few words about him. It was a privilege to present the award to a man he admired and who was a dear friend of his.

And NOW I know that "we would love to have you participate"
is actually code for -GIVE A SPEECH. LOL
As I was experiencing what panic attack symptoms must feel like,
our youngest son, said these wonderful words:
"I'll go! I've got you, Mom! I'd love to give a speech honoring Dad."

Hallelujah!!!!!

Seriously, though, it wasn't easy to go and hear about how wonderful my hubby was and see pictures of him that we'd never seen before on a power point. It was very emotional and it probably won't be much easier this time,
but I never want to miss any opportunity to honor him and the incredibly godly man that he was!

So, I'm going!

But, bless the Lord, I am not speaking! : )

The weekend of Irma

Thursday night I spent the evening finding all of the important papers in my life that would have to come with me if we evacuated. It was just surreal to have to pack up my life in one Tupperware bin and a suitcase and be ready to go. I was so thankful to have the day off on Friday for final hurricane prep. We spent a low key evening Friday resting knowing that on Saturday around noon we would know the final track and have to make a decision.

Then at midnight, all of our phones went off giving us a hurricane warning. It sounded like an Amber Alert and was terrifying. I knew in my head that it was only just then hitting Cuba but since I was only half awake, I thought it had arrived in FL that very minute. Scary!

It was such an emotionaly exhausting wee. It was also emotional for me since I don't have my hubby to make these kinds of decisions for me anymore. Then Zac stepped up to the plate and led our household in such a way that made me so proud and took a lot of the stress off of me. I took to calling him Captain Zac all weekend! : )

So, after seeing that Irma was coming over our city as a possible CAT 3 or 4 we decided to evacuate. Mostly because of the huge oak trees in our yard and the fact that every other day or so, half of our street already floods. We were invited to stay with Zac's in-laws in a house which is farther inland. What a blessing!

It was so hard to leave my house and not know what I would come back to though.
And I shed some tears because I kind of think I've been through enough in the last few years without adding the loss of a home due to hurricane damage and displacement to the list. LOL
But the minute we drove away from our home, I had a total peace about leaving and a peace about whatever we would face next.

We spent the next 2 days with Tiffany's family which was such a blessing. We helped prepare their house and then in between weather reports, we just had a fun time together like we always do.
-And we ate lots of hurricane snacks! We only went without power for a good 30 minutes or so. During which time, we realized that we had not charged any of our laptops, just our phones. When the power came back, everyone screamed and went running for their chargers. LOL

I have a slightly crooked pot holder I crocheted during the wait and we played games, colored, and watched lots and lots of Fixer Upper. 😀

Andrew had fun sleeping in their stairwell, which we cleared out for the tornado warnings we were hearing about. He felt just like Harry Potter. When he was face timing several friends while in there, I would walk by and it would sound like there were 4 people in the closet with him.LOL

The storm finally hit last night and by God's grace it was a 2. The whistling sound of the wind was pretty awesome to hear. It didn't get worse and so I ended up sleeping through most of it.
It went right over our county and by the grace of God, those windows and trees that I had been praying for, stayed in tact. Our street did not flood. AMAZING!
And the two spots in our roof that leak twice a year, did not leak at all. AMAZING!🙌🏼

At this moment our house still without power but we are just too thankful to let that bother us. I could've and should've by call accounts been so MUCH worse.

The curfew was lifted this morning and people are starting to get out and about again. Some of us have to work tomorrow. Schools are cancelled for the rest of the week.. And six million Floridians are without power. It is going to be quite a week.

Keep in prayer those who lost so much this weekend,

Andy in Aspen

Andrew has been on a family vacation with some dear friends in Colorado.
So, I've been getting these gorgeous pictures on my phone for the last 2 and half weeks from Mrs. P.
They've given him a once in a lifetime vacation and I'm so grateful and slightly jealous. LOL
My hubby grew up in Boulder so we have been to CO many times but never to Aspen.

He's been gone for 16 days, so needless to say, I can't wait to pick him up at the airport tomorrow night!
And neither canhis best friend from CA who flew in last night to spend the next two weeks with our family.

Doing life together

Last year, one of my friends took me to lunch and told me about her vision for pouring into womens' lives through a regular Bible study. Her desire was for this group of women to become close friends, who do life together and encourage one another.
I remember not being sure if I wanted to 'do life' with a bunch of women because of some past experiences I've had with friendships with women who were competitive. Blah!

God was surely in this idea and it has been a wonderful year.

Most of the ladies in this group are my age or younger. Some of them have kids the same ages as mine and some have little ones. Most are married but hanging out with them doesn't remind me that I'm a widow, just that I am a Christ follower. Praise God!
Some are new believers and some aren't.
We are big Judah Smith fans and have done several of his Bible studies this year, the latest being "How's Your Soul," which was really good.

We pray for each other in person and whenever needed. We've seen each other through some really BIG things. (good and bad) And we always cheer each other on!
Being with them has certainly been good for my soul! They have seen me through a lot of tearful evenings this year and they make me laugh until I almost cry!
Love them!

Switching it up

I recently went to a furniture store's outlet store, which was having what I call a 'scratch and dent sale.' I picked out a sofa that looked flawless and a matching love seat that only had small tear on the back. I was pretty excited about my great deal. Then I found out that I could "make an offer" lower than the sale price! Yahoo! They took my offer and I felt like quite the wheeler and dealer.  (which I'm totally not) Then, in my excitment I took photos with my phone to send to my kids.

The last time we got a sofa and loveseat was twelve years ago! And believe me, they had been well lived on by the 6 of us and two dogs.
That furniture was special to us because it was a surprise from our dear friend, Carlos. He had just finished an addition on our house and then he had a brand new leather sofa and loveseat delievered!!! It was an amazing surprise!

Back to my furniture adventure..
The big day for delivery came and I was at work but the kids were there to receive the furniture and when I got home, I found out that the company had switched the loveseat with one that had a really worn out spot ON THE FRONT of it.
HOLY COW and OH MY STARS, I was so mad.

I just can't even, with the thought of being cheated!!!

And then, praise the Lord, I remembered the photos!
So, I called the store and told them that my pictures proved that this wasn't the loveseat I bought. Then I added  "Add I'm pretty sure it is illegal to bait and switch furniture!!!."
-Except Andrew swears that I told them it was illegal to "switch and bait furniture!" LOL
-Yeah, well, whatever! I was really mad. ; )

It was an "all sales are final" kind of a sale, so without the photos, I'd have been out of luck.
But, guess who is getting a brand new one that isn't from the scratch and dent section?
Yay, God!

Here's hoping I will not have to think about furniture shopping again for twelve more years!

The forgotten card that I will never forget

This time last year, my Hubby was working and taking his laptop with him everyday. Until this exact week, when I had to take him to the ER and we found out that his right lung was filled with fliud. After that his laptop stayed at home and we got very busy fighting cancer for a second time...

When we were about to start school last week, Andrew opened the laptop case and took out all the work-related papers inside it there was a card!
A card that my Hubby bought for me but never had a chance to give me.
I'm sure he forgot it was in there.

Oh my goodness!

It was beautiful and it wrecked me! -In a good way!
It was like receiving a gift from him after all these months!

Amazing!

Praying friends

Years ago, I read a series of books called the Yada Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson. And I loved them!  They were about this group of women of different ages and ethnicities who had a prayer group. And I remember wishing way back then that I had a group of ladies to pray with regularly.
And now I do.
It has been great fun hang out with these sweet ladies and
 do life
 pray
 laugh
 eat
 and watch Judah Smith videos!
(and wonder why he always wears holey jeans)  ; )

We refer to each other as our "tribe."
Some of us are young adults and some of us have young adults!
I'm so glad that God put us together for this season.

With many thanks!

Over the weekend, Hubby's best friend came over to repair and install things! It was like Christmas had come early!
At one point it seemed that everything he laid eyes on needed a little tweaking so I told him that he might just need to close his eyes and walk away! : )
But he didn't! What a blessing! He accomplished so much!

A million thank-you's from all of us to him and his dear wife.

And we're back

I didn't intend to take a blogging break but I was busy having a wonderful visit with my sweet sister who came to take care of us for a week. She took care of all of us while I took care of Hubby. What a blessing!
She took a red eye from CA and hit the ground running when she got here. Before I knew it, she was grocery shopping all over town and then cooking up a storm.
She did A LOT of cooking.
Jen working her culinary magic!
She also cleaned, ordered things we needed, fixed things that were broken and trained our dog to walk on a leash without pulling our arms out of the socket. : ) She's pretty amazing like that!
There was also a Frisbee-throwing-park-day,
one dinner party

and two game nights. And she and our kids spent two days riding roller coasters!

She totally spoiled us and Hubby and I both tried to talk her into staying longer. LOL ; )

Hubby is doing well. He is resting and recovering. He is on a feeding tube for 12 hours a day now and is eating 800 calories of real food, as well. He is learning how much food his esopho-stomach (as he calls it) can handle without making him sick.
Jen's chicken tacos and guacamole were his first meal of solid foods since the first of the year! He was SO happy!

He goes for little walks around the house and we try to walk down the street and back together once a day if he is feeling up to it. Lord willing, his feeding tube will come out next Thursday! (the 'J' tube is a messy thing that I need to clean every couple of hours, even during the night, and I will be one happy camper when it is out)

I recently added up all that Hubby has been through and it came out to:
Six weeks of chemo and radiation, 2 surgeries, 2 ER trips and 19 days in the hospital!
What a journey! Such patient suffering! He is amazing!
We are so thankful that he is cancer-free!
And that God has met all of our needs along the way! -He also sent us a bundle of fun for a week in my sister!

Grateful,
~Becky

Excited

Tonight is the night our son, Nathan, arrives and we can't wait!!!
The plane ticket was a gift from his precious church family so that he can see his dad!
I'm so glad that Hubby is doing so much better. He was concerned he wouldn't be able to talk to Nate, but thankfully, talking isn't painful anymore. He's 'still weak as a little girl' he says but he is improving! I'm also thankful that Nathan gets to see him doing this well. Our other kids experienced a lot pain seeing Dad suffer and I'm glad he didn't go through that. It was rough.

Such a thoughtful gift!!!

Nathan is also coming home for Christmas!

So blessed that we will get to see him a lot this month! :-)

Jumping for joy

Our son, Nathan, ministers to youth at a church in CA and his precious church family has blessed him with a plane ticket home to see his dad!!!!!
Isn't that the sweetest thing ever?!
We are overwhelmed and grateful!
Hubby and I were both a teary mess!  ~I also did some jumping and squealing into the phone!

Nate is always the guy behind the camera. So, recently when we saw a video he made of a trip to Zion National Park with his friends, and he turned the camera around to show his face for a second, Hubby and I both said "Go back to his face!"
I paused the video and then took a picture of his face on the TV. LOL
Because we really miss this face!

And we sure can't wait to see it in person!

20 days and counting! Whoo-hooo!!!!!

Weekend fun

A dear woman at our church wanted to bless a couple with a date night and she thought of us!
 -And what a date night!
She gave us a nights stay at the Hilton and tickets to the Bucs vs Ravens game!
She barely knows my hubby, but she couldn't have given him a gift he would have liked more, unless it included the Bucs winning! ; )

This week has been a game changer as far as his energy level goes. So, it was awesome that the game fell on this weekend because Hubby had just enough energy to pull it off. It was a great 'last hurrah' until this trial is behind us.

We were staying a mile and a half from the stadium and he was really wishing he could walk that far but we took a taxi, which was cheaper than paying to park anyway. We just made it to our seats before he started feeling a little shaky, so it is a good thing we didn't try walking in the 90 degree weather. We got our socks blessed off when we found out that our seats were in the SHADE!!! Hooray!

Watching these paratroopers fly into the stadium was such a treat.

We ended up leaving the game early but it wasn't because Hubby wasn't feeling well. It was because the Bucs were down 35 points in the first inning, I mean quarter, and he couldn't stand the misery. ; )

I apparently committed 3 fouls on game day:

1. I asked if I should bring some cooking magazines to the game in case I got bored

2. I clapped for the Ravens when they were introduced. He said 'Stop clapping' and I said "Isn't it polite?"

3. During the cheering, the score board said 'Tampa' with an arrow to our side of the stadium and then 'Bay' with an arrow pointing to the opposite side. I didn't get the whole arrow thing and may have been the only one our side of the stadium to yell 'Bay.' ; )

Did I mention this was my first professional football game?

We had a great time and then he watched the rest of the game from home.... in the A/C.
Not sure how the game ended since I may have been looking at cooking magazines. ; )

Jehoval Jireh

In the midst of all the craziness of last week, the Lord did some marvelous things!

He truly is our "ever present help in time of trouble."

His care and miraculous provision have blown our minds this week and we are so grateful!

For example, that oral surgeon's bill got taken care of! Amazing!
And the pile of co-pays got paid!  : )

Jehovah Jireh is one of His names and it means "The Lord provides." In other words, providing is apart of who He is and what He does. What a reminder we received!

Prius fun

We've had a Prius for a week now, and it is so fun to drive! The suspense was killing me the other day and I put gas into it even though it wasn't on E yet. : )
Since it isn't a 'normal' car, I am actually reading the manual!
Watching the screen to see if we are using the engine or the battery while we drive, is like a fun new hobby.

So far, I have walked up to the wrong car and waited for the smart key to unlock it, which it didn't. ; )
-There are a lot of silver ones out there! And I accidentally left the car on while in a store. Oh my!!! -Really glad it didn't get stolen. It is just that quiet!!!
The first time I was at a stop light and the fuel engine shut off, I panicked because my van used to shut off while I was driving it. LOL THAT is a good thing now and it was a little hard to get used to.
Unfortunately, someone keyed the passenger side while we were parked at a theme park over the weekend.-Sad! What was that all about?! Oh well.

The first thing the dealer told us about Prius' when we looked at them, was that you could go camping in one. I thought he was joking. But all the seats lay down flat and you can put fit an air mattress inside. Who would have thought! When he said that you can run the A/C all night without using any fuel, I got interested. : ) Hubby said there wouldn't be much room for storage so, if we did it, we'd probably have to eat at Cracker Barrels instead of bringing a cooler and cooking out. (A/C and the Cracker Barrel, sounds like it could be my kind of camping!!!) LOL

Super excited to be saving so much on gas!

Giving

A couple of years ago, we started a new Christmas tradition.

In early December we pick out what we'd like to buy for someone else's family for Christmas from the World Vision catalog. We set out a jar and put in our change and offerings which grow as the season progresses.
(not our tithes, which we strongly believe go to our local church where we are spiritually fed, sorry for getting preachy on you!) : )
This year we have a little clay pot that reminds us that "He who gives to the poor will lack nothing."
(Psalm 28:27) Amen!
We chose a dairy goat for the last couple of years, which means "the family can sell surplus milk, cheese, and yogurt at the market to earn money for medicine and other necessities."

But this year the kids decided they wanted to try to buy "more than a goat." (I love that!!!!)
They also want to try to supply mosquito nets for a family, which are coated in insecticide to protect children from malaria. And they want to help a victim of human trafficking with restoration of "physical and spiritual health, safe shelter, medical care, food and vocational training." (which I can't read without choking up)

Anyway, I counted what is in the pot so far and I'm happy to report we have the goat covered! Hooray!
Here's World Vision's Christmas website in case you'd like to join in the fun and do some life-changing giving! Their deadline to deliver by Christmas is December 16th.

The blahs and the blessings

It is a 'blah' day in my world,
quite literally speaking, because I have some kind of a stomach virus!
And it apparently isn't the 24 hour kind either. Ugh!

It is the kind of day that blessing counting needs to happen lest the 'blahs' swallow me up.

~Instead of thinking about all the Zip-lock bags that have become water balloons and my mixing bowl that headed out the door,
I'm thankful for a water fight among siblings who have the best of times together

~Instead of seeing the messes around the house that four healthy teenagers don't seem to notice or clean,
I'm thankful for the flowers my hubby brought me that brighten any messes

~Instead of wondering what's for dinner,
I'm thankful for my amazing man, who saw the empty fridge and did the grocery shopping for us before going to work this morning, at an hour when I've never darkened the door of a supermarket

~Instead of freaking out that it sounds like my boys are crashing a wedding,
I'm thankful for the godly friends they choose to hang out with.

~Instead of getting frustrated that I'm in bed and not better yet,
I'm thankful for the sweet girl who wants to risk some germs and watch chick flicks with me

Hope your blahs turn into blessings too.
~Becky
